Creating a couture gown is like creating a piece of Art, each piece is different. It can take as little as 100 hours to sew a couture gown or much more depending on the embellishment being created or the shape of the gown. Most salons request a minimum of 6 months prior to the wedding to order your gown.
Here at Kirstie Kelly, I believe no more than 3 alteration appointments are the magic number. The first fitting is where the majority of the work will be pinned and decided on, the 2nd is a review of the main alteration and at this fitting the hem is altered and the bustle set. The 3rd fitting is to see the finished gown, try it on and enjoy the beauty. More than this and the gown can become compromised with all of the handling. So brides, before starting your fittings be at your ideal weight, there is nothing worse for a gown then a bride who either yoyo’s in weight or drops dramatically during the alteration process.
Our pricing at Kirstie Kelly is based on the quality and design. Some of our gowns with couture detailing can be found as low as $4000.00 Gowns that are designed and Sketched with me, specifically for a bride in mind start at $10,000.
Alterations are included in Couture gown but are not included in Collection gowns with couture detailing.
On average a 6 months delivery for your wedding gown is standard, however I have created gowns for brides in far less time for special circumstances. When ordering a couture gown, it is always best to give yourself enough time to enjoy the process. If you are ordering a gown off the rack, Then it will be ready for immediate delivery.
I try and stay away from trend in bridal, I feel It adversely affects the bride later on, however right now “barely there” gowns are very important, not for everyone but still an important trend. I feel today’s bride also has a wonderful sense of who they are, so trend is not as important. It’s more important to have a diverse collection where every bride can find her gown. I love working with silks, organza’s, chiffons, beading, texture fabrics that don’t overshadow a bride but exude femininity. I find this is a better way to tell a story in bridal then through trend. Non bridal, I love clean lines and sexy silhouettes that reveal just enough. A cross between femininity with strength.
It is always fun to take your friend shopping with you, but be true to your heart and if you fall in love with a gown and feel it is ”the one” don’t let others persuade you differently. Be careful online with anything that looks too good to be true- it usually is! Above all, enjoy shopping for your gown, it can become overwhelming so don’t schedule more than three salons a day or you wont remember the gowns you tried on nor will you be having a good time by the end of the day.
